What is Grantegy?
Feb 27, 2023Grant development is a process that involves multiple steps. When you’re writing a proposal for a grant, your goal is to explain the need in the community and your organization’s vision to solve the need to the potential funders. Eligibility will need to be proven, organization’s history discussed, and current plans along with how funds the grantmakers provide will help to meet the need. Grant writing affords the opportunity to affect positive change by offering nonprofits and for-profits an opportunity to obtain funding because it is the lifeline for many organizations.
Trying to find and acquire funding for your organization can be an intimidating task if you don’t have the right experience. Grant Consulting Services, LLC works to expose the process and help it feel less complex so you can get the funding you need for your small business or nonprofit. Our focus is helping organizations to become grant optimized so they have a better chance of obtaining grant funds. Meet Grantegy: Don’t Leave Your Grants to Chance! Throughout the next year, we will walk through the main components of our Grantegy Optimization process through our blog and online classes. These steps include:
- Grant Feasibility and Readiness
- Grant Research
- Building and keeping relationships with funders
- Budgets and Grant Applications
- Grant management and internal relationships
- Evaluation and Impact
Each aspect of our process is critical to become grant optimized. Several milestones are developed, worked on, and completed throughout each phase. The grant feasibility study is our proprietary assessment designed to take a deep look at the organization and data obtained to determine if an organization is viable and ready to take on the arduous process of applying for grant funding. If the feasibility study is well executed, both parties will clearly understand the next steps that must be taken. If not, recommendations are made and we work in partnership to help the organization become grant optimized.
The next step in our proven method is to use the data from the feasibility study to optimize grant performance and develop a written program plan. This plan is the framework that includes the case statement, outcomes, and evaluation measures, among others. This plan is customized for each organization to make sure goals are clarified and the outcomes will benefit the communities it serves.
Based on the predetermined priority need areas, we conduct in-depth research to identify potential funding opportunities through various proactive and refined search tools. We have access to over 85,000 grant-making agencies in the United States, including the Federal Government. Once a potential opportunity has been identified, the goal is to write a proposal (s) that meet the funder guidelines, tells a compelling story, and excels at giving the funder a proposal dedicated to providing a conduit between the need in the community and the funder focus area. After reviewing and submitting the proposal, there is still a waiting period for the determination. This is just one grant opportunity, and there may be more available!
Ongoing research is conducted to identify any other potential funders. Usually, it takes more than one application to become fully funded. Typically, it’s not as simple as one and done. Pre and post COVID, only 33% and 27% of grant applications, respectively are funded so several may need to be submitted in order to be funded. Research helps to match with funders aligned with an organization’s focus to build and develop relationships that will also prove beneficial to both parties. Proposals are thoroughly checked and reviewed to make sure they are consistent with the requirements stated and mentioned in the application. The follow-up research and ongoing funding research help us make sure we keep the client’s objectives in mind.
Making sure grants are properly managed throughout the grant lifecycle comes in three phases: pre-award, award, and post-award. It’s imperative that processes and procedures are in place internally to organize grants, maintain grant requirements, and track grants throughout the entire process. Assigning tasks and even setting up a grant calendar are tools that can be effective at keeping all parties involved. When a grant is awarded, we work with you to help ensure grant compliance, measure the outcomes, and assist in grant reporting to the funder.
